Amy Maggard began her work in the domestic violence and sexual assault arena while attending the University of California Santa Barbara in 2010. While working at an inpatient mental health facility for committed persons for over one year, Amy gained knowledge of ways to care for and serve people encountering mental illness with compassion. Through this experience Amy learned a lot about the co-occurrence between substance abuse, mental illness and physical and sexual trauma. Amy joined the Stand Up Placer team in early 2014 as a Safe House Crisis Counselor and was quickly promoted to Sexual Assault Services Coordinator. With a passion to see victims and survivors of sexual violence empowered to heal through equal access to services, Amy is working hard to expand the level of expertise at Stand Up Placer for survivors of Human Trafficking and Sexual Assault in Placer County. Stand Up Placer believes that Amy will be an important addition to the management team in her new role as Sexual Assault Services Manager.
Chivas Mays has worked for Stand Up Placer as the Housing Coordinator for over 4 years and has worked with the domestic violence movement for over 14 years. She has served on the Placer Consortium on Homelessness and assisted with the homeless count. Chivas was trained by the United Way to provide financial coaching for survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault who have encountered financial abuse as well as facilitating a Survivors Support Group teaching healthy relationships and strategies for self-sufficiency. Chivas has personal experience as a survivor which has given her a burning desire to see our survivors overcome barriers, fear, and the stigma associated with being the victim of a crime. Her personal mantra is, “I enjoy seeing people transition from Victim to Victory!” Chivas was selected as the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence Advocate of the Year in 2014. Stand Up Placer is excited to see Chivas in her new role as Housing Manager.
